Screaming crowds and jubilant laughter filled different corners of the beautiful Maldives last January, as the first ever international reality TV show ‘Maldivian Idol’ made its debut in the country. For the first time, singers were given an international platform to showcase their true talent – a calling which was answered by thousands, but won only by one.
When Laisha Junaid was crowned as the winner of Season One back in May, we all wondered about what was going to happen next. Was it the end of the perfect weekend get-to-gathers and twitter parties? Would our TV screens be graced by routine Biscolata Ads again? All of our questions were answered when the confirmation of a second season hit the headlines; but no one knew when.
Months passed, we fell back into our normal routines and then the exciting news of auditions were out; production for Season Two was officially underway at this point – with the auditions set to kick off during October. We could now finally think of the days to come, where our living rooms would once again be full with family and friends and booming laughter.
Season one was a huge success itself, and perhaps the best thing we got out of it was a sense of unity – we saw the whole nation coming together to talk about show. Season two is likely to follow in its predecessors footsteps, and is predicted to be even bigger and better than the previous installment of the singing reality show.
While Dhiraagu, Allied Insurance and STO have already signed as the main sponsors for the second season, Maldivian has also signed as the travel partner. The season which is due to be launched late this year will hold auditions in six different locations, in a bid to seek the best of the best undiscovered talent among us Maldivians.
